I’m considering running my first cycle and wanted to get some honest feedback and advice before I start.

Stats:
  • Age: 28
  • Height: 185 cm
  • Weight: 87 kg
  • Training experience: Several years of consistent lifting
  • Goal: Get leaner, keep/build muscle (aiming for a “Hollywood physique”)

Training program (current split – 5 days):

1 – Push
1. Incline Dumbbell Press – 4×8–10

4. Cable Flies – 3×12–15
5. Dumbbell Lateral Raise – 3×15

What I’m considering:
  • Anavar-only cycle (since I’m not comfortable stacking multiple compounds yet)
  • Unsure about dosing, length of cycle, and PCT requirements
  • Want something that keeps me lean, adds strength, and minimal side effects

Questions for you guys:
  1. What’s a realistic first Anavar cycle for someone like me (length, daily dosage)?
  2. What should I add in terms of support (liver, cholesterol, etc)?
  3. Is Anavar-only worth it for a first cycle, or should I be thinking differently?
  4. Any advice on managing cardio + lifting volume during the cycle?

welcome to the EVO family :D @beginner this is the right place to get help.
Anavar only is usually disappointing, especially for a first run, it won’t give you much size and still brings suppression and liver stress. If you’re set on using it then 40 to 60mg daily for 6 to 8 weeks is the common range, but you’ll want liver support and bloodwork before and after. A simple test base at 300 to 400mg a week for 12 weeks is a far better first cycle, easier to manage, and gives you the physique changes you’re chasing.

If you’re serious about this then start a log. Post your training, diet, weight, pics, and updates in one place so everyone can track and give you real advice. You’ll get way more useful feedback and it keeps you accountable. Most guys asking these questions without a log end up spinning wheels, with a log people can see your food, lifts, and progress and actually guide you. Before any cycle, a LOG is a must, will take you 15min to start a training log and 5min to update.

HOW-TO LOG?

Why is a Log Journal important?

  • Doing a log will actually help you way more than just dropping random updates. When you lay it all out week by week you start to see patterns in your body that you won’t catch otherwise.
  • Other guys here run logs all the time and there’s no privacy issue, nobody is asking for your name or anything personal, it is just training, diet, and how the compound feels.
  • The feedback you get is also way better because people can follow along and spot things you might miss. It also helps the next guy who is thinking about running the same compound so you are giving back while you learn.
  • Even if you think you might not stick with it, just starting the log makes it easier to come back and add quick notes. That way you get more out of what you are running instead of keeping it all in your head.
To really guide you we need more info from you:
  • Please share your diet, training, cardio, sleep, supplements etc log with us in a NEW thread, full log journal so our guidance is based on facts you provide.
  • It will take 15-20 minutes max.
  • We have 100s of years of experience between us, so you need to post a LOG Journal with your stats (weight,height,age, years training, cycle history) diet, training, cardio, supplement, sleep details. If you don't log what you eat or train now, open NOTES on phone and start recording it there and paste here. Very easy.
  • Please post a Log Journal asap for us

a lot of people will say no to anavar only. but i have zero issues with it. i would do 50mgs a day for 8 weeks with n2guard

Are you specifically wanting an oral only cycle? Is testosterone off the table due injections?

Yeah I just don’t think you’d be that happy with the results and I think you’d do better with testosterone
Well tbh, i feel oral is more comfortable. But injections is not off the table... What you recommend bro?
175mg a week of testosterone, get some bloods done pre and again 4-6 week mark to assess your e2 and see where to go from there

Welcome brother to the Evo Fam. My take is like most of the brothers before me, I would go with a Test base for a first cycle at 300-400mg pw.
I also agree with @Mobster and drop the training volume a bit, 30 sets is a lot. 20 is the most you need in a quality full blown training session.
Get a log going bro, you are in the best place for the best information, guidance and support.
 
If your not against injections then testosterone for your first run is what you should be looking at. You body already produces it so its the best choice. As @JimmyO187 said start it low and titrate it up after the 4 week mark once you get bloods done and increase if everything is good. Some people have different opinions on titration as esters already do this for you. However being your first cycle my opinion on this is, this is the time to learn how your body will respond to test. You start high straight away and when it does saturate you may find the dose is too much, e2 spikes, acne shows up, water retention builds from e2 and your mood is thrown out. At this stage you will be looking to add in an ai to balance things out.

Now you have just had to add something else to adjust something your already taking and trying to learn your personal response to.

Or.... you go slow as other suggest. Run bloods at 4 week and you will have a better indication of how your body is aromatising. If good increase and run bloods again and increase again if all is good. No need to exceed 500mg on your first cycle though, when you have found your ceiling for dose ride that out and enjoy.
You will have better knowledge in your arsenal for your next cycle as you will almost find you will have test in every cycle and only have to worry about learning your response to new compounds. Each cycle only add one new thing at a time so you better aware at what could be causing any potential issues.

Ultimately you do want you want to brother but just keep in mind – its easier and safer to learn how to drive a car when its moving slow, then when its going 100mph.

If your not against injections then testosterone for your first run is what you should be looking at. You body already produces it so its the best choice. As @JimmyO187 said start it low and titrate it up after the 4 week mark once you get bloods done and increase if everything is good. Some people have different opinions on titration as esters already do this for you. However being your first cycle my opinion on this is, this is the time to learn how your body will respond to test. You start high straight away and when it does saturate you may find the dose is too much, e2 spikes, acne shows up, water retention builds from e2 and your mood is thrown out. At this stage you will be looking to add in an ai to balance things out.

Now you have just had to add something else to adjust something your already taking and trying to learn your personal response to.

Or.... you go slow as other suggest. Run bloods at 4 week and you will have a better indication of how your body is aromatising. If good increase and run bloods again and increase again if all is good. No need to exceed 500mg on your first cycle though, when you have found your ceiling for dose ride that out and enjoy.
You will have better knowledge in your arsenal for your next cycle as you will almost find you will have test in every cycle and only have to worry about learning your response to new compounds. Each cycle only add one new thing at a time so you better aware at what could be causing any potential issues.

You're in the right place.

I agree with what @Allupfromhere said and he said it better than I would have so I won't even try to repeat it. What I will add is that if you're going to start your journey taking PED's/gear then you should get used to what that means which is pinning yourself with testosterone (amongst others). The feeling I get is you wanna start with orals because you're not ready to take the plunge with pinning yourself. I think by only starting with anavar to 'ease' yourself into the idea of pinning yourself you'd be selling yourself short when testosterone is something your body knows exactly what to do with and is the Godfather of all gear and will give you the noticeable results you'll want. By keeping the dose low you can use this board to safely go through the cycle and come out just fine.

Having said that there's nothing wrong with an anavar only cycle but let's call it for what it is, you're just prolonging the inevitable so if you're ready then start a full log and let us guide you through the healthiest and most useful cycle for you and dial in all your macros and supplements and training as well. To be more specific, and if it were me, I'd run 300mg of TestE or TestC per week for 12-14 weeks.
