Hernia!!!! Hoping to find others who have experience!

Fck Me! Found a bump the size of a marble above my navel this morning after blasting my core. I pushed it and it felt all "giggly" and went inside my abdominal wall.......then after 5-10 minutes was back. It didnt hurt but felt odd.

I freaked. Got into my doctor this morning and he says I have a hernia and that surgery is the only remedy. He scheduled a consultation with a general surgeon for next week. My general doc suggested surgery asap.

I have been busting my ASS for 16 weeks to prepare for my first show November 13th. I am so close I can almost touch it......not to mention fcking irritable from carb depletion. LOL.

Well????? WTF should I do? I made the mistake of "google'n" the procedure and recovery looks terrible. 4-8 weeks of doing nothing! Then training post-recovery is ?????????

Anyone have any experience with this kind of thing? Good or bad????

Thanks!

Talk to your doctor about trusses and surgical belts to delay surgery. After the show you will need to have surgery. The risk of not having surgery is that you can have "problems" with the hernia which can cut off blood supply and/or form blood clots. Given the placement of your hernia it sounds like part of your intestines are coming through a break in your abdominal wall. I've known people who couldn't have surgery and went years with a hernia, just be careful of that area and really discuss with your doc abdominal workouts and what your limitations are.

Depending on the severity you can train in 2-3 weeks. My Dad had some that seems similar to yours, he was driving the same day and running/lifting normally in 9 days. Its all done with lasers now and the incision is small. Just make sure you get a good surgeon.

All of these things sound positive. However, I am having hernia surgery next tuesday, and I have been told NO heavy training for at least 6 months..I just had stomach surgery in March and the surgeon told me 6 weeks and I can start training. Well I Did and obv he has no idea how we train cause at 6 weeks I started training and 4 weeks later, Bam, I have an incisional hernia..F-in Sux thats all I have to say. I have to get it done soon cause it is small and teh doc says it raises the chance of teh intestines getting stuck in there and cutting off blood circulation. I cant beleive this..I just gained back 17 pounds from my first surgery, strengthw as getting real good and now this happends. I cant win..SJ

yes you can man, this is a time to fine tune the diet, recover and start looking at the next schedule and training program that you'll have to begin to compete..

good luck with the surgery and recovery..

I actually have one currently. I train every day. Some days are better than others and it will bother you periodically. I will not have it taken out until i lose a lot more belly fat. Once the surgery is done you will be out a few weeks before you can train again. There are pictures posted in my transformation log.

Might i add. My hernia came after i had a 1 1/2 feet of my large intestine removed. I had never had a hernia of any sort in my life and i always played sports.

If it is small and you can hold out until after your show then go for it. Like i said i have had mine since my surgery in 2006. It has gotten bigger and bigger. Of course it sounds like your case is different then mine. Meaning i am still losing fat while you are in shape. I was advised by doctors to try and lose as much as possible before having the surgery just an FYI.

Diverticulitis?

yes i had perforations and toxins was filling up my insides. I was feeling sick like the flu. Couldn't eat or drink anything for 4 days. Well on the 4th day on my way home from work. I told the wife lets go to the hospital to go get checked out. They admitted me asap and told her i had so much toxin in my body i may not have woken up the next morning and i was lucky to have made it as long as i did. Scary crap. That's when everything for me took a turn. Wasn't allowed to exercise for a solid year per doctors orders. And needless to say that is what started my weight gain.

Did they have to cut you open. Or was it by a small insission? Forgot the term. Dohhh. Hope you heal quickly. Did they say how long before you can train?
