Just listened to this...
Badass and hits it all home for me!
We all have stories I'm sure, I grew up in a Addict household and can defenitely relate to this episode. My father passed away from the bottle at 43 I was 15.
Myself and brother's have and currently still(one brother) dealing with the aftermath of Alcohol and Methamphetamine addiction. I can say this here my younger brother had a Meth induced stroke and survived luckily..result was Brokas afasia... I Probably misspelled.. I chose to get the hell out of the swamp for good!
I'm seeing this now.. My wife just said the other night about how I'm saving money big time without all the alcohol I would consume Nightly.
I can also say that the human body is a work of art.. In that my younger brother my cousin would run themselves and the body ragged and he and my cousin were still ripped with muscle.. I used to freak out and show my youngest son and say look at the gift God has given us and we fuck it up and it still bounces back!!!
Unreal..amazing.

Just throwing it out there!
AWESOME and I thank God I found this place!

that is great to hear man. Life is too short to let an addiction run our lives. Glad the podcast is helping others.

This is what he meant: Broca's aphasia, also known as expressive or non-fluent aphasia, is a language disorder that affects a person's ability to speak fluently, often resulting in halting speech and difficulty forming sentences, while comprehension typically remains intact

Similar to a stroke.

Stevesmi and I touch upon all too often using sensible doses and the like on these shows. You'll be hard pushed to find us recommending pounding grams and grams into yourself. What applies there, you having one body and damage not always being fixable applies here.

The other side, reflected in @medengines post, is the effects on others. Addicts are all too often both reliant on others and very selfish in what they do. By way of example and I've touched upon my brother David's addiction and death was his drinking a bottle (liter size) of whisky every damn day until he died (circa $500 per month at home). The last 2-3 years or so he'd moved back in and was living with my elderly mother. She had, in the past, been as silly (after my dad died) and still drinks more than I'd like (a few shots nightly). But the idea of her being around my never sober brother to the point of not wanting to be in the same room being her 'normal' annoyed the oblivious to all this me. Ironically my whole family will be benefiting from his passing fiscally.

Equally the other brother who died (as a result of the wear and year he'd caused in the depths of his addiction years prior to his passing) would have been out mugging, robbing and stealing when he was using $600 a week's worth of Heroin. His saving grace came from becoming a father.

Most of the family addictions came from not dealing with depression and, in essence, self medicating. The issue is such, as can be seen, merely makes it 'better' briefly and then a LOT worse. Alcohol is a great example. Laughing like idiots when we're moderately drunk but morose morons when we're full blown drunk. At best numbing. In David's case (and suggested by me at the time) he'd have been better served getting a dog. Any pet will have helped but a dog would require you to be less selfish and more caring, needs walking (an additional issue was a sh*t knee), you relieve stress when stroking pets and you talk sh*t to them and they don't judge. Would have cost less and he'd still be here.

One thing I never quite get, regardless of addictions, is just how awful we can be (me too) to the ONE FKIN BODY WE HAVE. If it was a car and if we abused it we'd die we'd take care of it. Unlike a car not everything is fixable and we can't buy another one.

Yeah my brother had a Meth induced brain bleed at the deep center area and it took out his speech..
He has gotten better as this was maybe 4 yrs ago now.. But he studders and has trouble putting sentences together.
He was once the sell anything salesman.

Local fella I chat with was an alcoholic and only 29 and just had a stroke.

On the whole stroke thing. One of my buddies via the whole strength is Dr Tom Balchin (huge collector of old barbells etc) . One of the top fellas on stroke rehab. Runs a thing called ARNI. Put his name and ARNI into google. Lots of advice there. It amounts to LOTS of physical rehab and LOADS of mental stimuli

@medengines I thought 151 was interesting as well, very detailed on why drugs are bad, and we all have our nasty experiences with drugs and alcohol here as well. I've talked about my drinking problems in the past openly and my life change from it.
Happy to see you off the alcohol, that stuff is poison, I would know lol :P I did a lot of it.

Wow!
What a frickin badass story and recovery battle. That dude has accomplished so much and is giving it all back full circle. Amazing story..
The products and books.. I think I'm going to try to get his book on recovery. He also mentions seizures..! My brother has had these as well.
He has his up's and down moments, currently doing a One Meal a day diet.. He's getting better...Blood sugar and pressure problems.. Metabolic syndrome.
I tried to help him before.. but my own stubbornness just wore him out.. He got sick of my ass riding him probably... That fucked up big brother effect.. Lol

Myself and Tom nearly did a study at Brooks University looking at comparing doing nothing (1), the standard 8-12 weeks NHS protocol (2) and the stuff Arni does (3).

I won an event Tom put on back in 2012 (Britain's Ultimate Grip) and he's trained here. He signed a copy of his No1 book (The Successful Stoke Survivor) that he'd used at a bunch of NHS conferences. Even NOT for stroke there's a LOT in their for rehabbing muscle injuries etc

Lev remind people (or link to previous comments) a little on your journey

We are truly a messed up Species. The things that get in our head as we get through life are insane. Really throws off our body and brain.

I think I read something like 85% of people have metabolic issues in the body.

That's a crazy amount. That means only 15% of us are truly healthy.

The way I look at it is that everybody has a brain. Some people choose to make it better. And some people don't.

This is why it's important to have some sort of mental stimulus.

Doing things like yoga and meditation, really make a difference as well.

A lot of people like to go jogging every morning. It's a great way to kind of turn off that stimuli

this way you don't have the urge to fall into bad habits.

One of the main things that I notice is the marketing. You have a lot of these things marketed like junk food or alcohol. beer commercials put us females down and show us in bikini's as bimbos, it makes men want to drink more
