Bit of a mood killer update but just got off a call with my mum- she and my dad just got back from a specialist appointment where they confirmed he has alzheimerss. It’s progressed quite quickly and aggressively which has caught us off guard.
Theyre still in the UK (I’ve been in Australia for nearly 10 years) and with time differences and life being busy I wasn’t as aware of how bad things had gotten, so Im not feeling too great about missing the signs and checking in on him more. I knew he was slipping a bit but I just chalked it up to old age and he always played it down. Sounds like the medical team is great but aside from medication there’s not much else theyre proposing just yet.
I might head back to the UK in the next few months to help out, depending on how things go ober the next little while. My mum’s had knee replacements and isn’t too mobile so if dad starts to decline physically it willl be a lot for her to handle.
Just giving the team here a heads up that posting and contributing might change a bit if I do have to head back but I’ll keep everyone (particularly
@RhinoUGL) updated.
If anyone has experience with dealing with a similar thing with their parents or advice on how to support him I’d really appreciate it.
