Bit of a mood killer update but just got off a call with my mum- she and my dad just got back from a specialist appointment where they confirmed he has alzheimerss. It’s progressed quite quickly and aggressively which has caught us off guard.

Theyre still in the UK (I’ve been in Australia for nearly 10 years) and with time differences and life being busy I wasn’t as aware of how bad things had gotten, so Im not feeling too great about missing the signs and checking in on him more. I knew he was slipping a bit but I just chalked it up to old age and he always played it down. Sounds like the medical team is great but aside from medication there’s not much else theyre proposing just yet.

I might head back to the UK in the next few months to help out, depending on how things go ober the next little while. My mum’s had knee replacements and isn’t too mobile so if dad starts to decline physically it willl be a lot for her to handle.

Just giving the team here a heads up that posting and contributing might change a bit if I do have to head back but I’ll keep everyone (particularly @RhinoUGL) updated.

If anyone has experience with dealing with a similar thing with their parents or advice on how to support him I’d really appreciate it.

I'm really sorry to hear this brother! It's never easy, I lost my parents a while ago suddenly. Life can hit us pretty hard sometimes out of the blue, but we march on. Be strong for him, and keep up the good fight. So far as logging goes, family is most important at the end of the day so you do what you have to do. I think though even with 1 x update a week if things change and you travel over, you will find this is going to help your mental game as well and give you some clarity and resilience in other day to day aspects. We're here for you man so just keep us posted and try not to get to down on yourself (I know its easy for me to say) but he's still with us now so make the most of it, life is short and it's inevitable that we all end up in the same place one day which is why every day we have together around the sun is a blessing. Cherish the time and do the things you feel in your heart. Much love brother, reach out please any time, here for ya man.

Thanks @RhinoUGL. As far as the logging goes the next few months is pretty much a waiting game for me so I think the gym will be where I end up a lot. Feeling a bit helpless being so far away but dont want to over react or do anything silly. Will be off to the gym soon and intend to have a good workout-been thinking a lot through the nmight and you realise there is a lot in life that is outside your control so need to hang on to the things that give the stability. The gym is an area where I feel more like Im in control so i don't want it to drop off.

@James Young hopefully we see your mom recover to some degree and get better. Best wishes to her.

Your training is still good, leg press strong. :D

Your plan is to stay in AU or you leaving very soon to UK?

Thanks bro

At the moment staying put but may head back in the next 2-3 months depending on how things go. Bit all over the place but the conversation last night with the missus was figuring out if we could move back and what would be needed for that (if things decline and I need to be there for an extended time). Not looking to do anything silly though- will wait for updates, let the treatment start, assess the improvments and then make decisions based off of that
