Veteran Log Why fasting helps you live longer, helps build more muscle. and my prolong fast LOG

as it starts to cool down i like to break out the soups. it especially is amazing after a long fast to break the fast with some homemade soup especially the broth.

this is a simple recipe that i put together that anyone can do with a slow cooker

you can mix and match what you want to add but this is my setup for this weekend:

celery
sweet potatoes
regular potatoes
carrots
swissh chard (stems go in early, leaves go in later)
spinach
PLAIN low fodmap organic chicken broth 365 brand free or onions/garlic
oregano
black pepper
organic chicken marinaded in raw honey

slow cooker
@MarkNV and I will have a cook off on whose soup
Is better ha

When you got that bubble and glissen on the top you know it's a proper broth. Looks hearty

I don't eat soup much. I like my alpha meals with big steak and that sort of thing

yeah its very good. and not fatty either which tends to give people the runs with soups

Nice for sure. Especially on a cold night. Get some soup in your stomach before bed.

This is a really good looking soup and you made it so healthy. Beats the hell out of the soup out of a can

Agreed! Since I joined EVO I can't stand the thought of anything in a can anymore and rarely consume it.

@stevesmi can’t beat a good soup for sure man! One of my go to meals

in life even if you fail at something, you need to get back on the horse and keep going. atleast the cliche goes something like this. the fishing has been awful the past few weeks. over new years week i got completely skunked twice, meaning i caught nothing at all. not even a bite. others weren't catching much either so the fishing was just slow. but i didn't give up at all and kept at it. the monday after New years i went again and caught a few smaller fish for cat food. I didn't give up at all and kept at it and over the past week the reports have sucked, but i figured let me go try it anyway cause you need to put in the hours.

well there were 3 pompano caught on the entire beach and 2 of them was me. and 1 of the pompano was 18" which is a personal best for me ever. its a $100+ fish in the store, and if it was a tournament I would have easily won it.

it just shows that you gotta keep at it in life and that you need to also accept that some days will be a failure. you don't have to be happy to fail, but you also need to accept it. the same goes to your bodybuilding journey. not every weight training session will be good. every day is a learning experience, even on days i have a shitty workout I try and figure out what went wrong and why.

Same with fishing, i try and figure out was it the tides? the wind? the current? the weeds? the water temp? my bait? my rig? .. there is never a wasted day. the other day when i didn't catch anything I ran into a smart Vietnamese guy who taught me something new, another told me about a good secluded spot he was having luck in where it wasn't crowded. so there is NEVER a wasted day ! make EVERY single day an education and keep LEARNING and getting better. your brain is capable of learning endless things, so why do you not add more to it?

keep at it and keep a positive mindset. things in life can set you back, injuries can set you back. but the cycle will continue and the pendulem will swing back your way if you are doing it the correct way in life. without the knowledge I have picked up I would have never caught these 2 fish.

Great message!! Every single day is a learning, we never fail, we just get opportunities to learn!! Never give up, as long as we draw a breath, we are still in the fight!!

Great fishing @stevesmi !! Thank you the positive message! I will take it into the beginning of the week and that is how I will set my thought process for the day!!

yeah i bring it up cause i ran into another fisherman who has been super frustrated and flat out told me he was quitting fishing since he didn't catch much since September. a lot of people quit the gym too cause they go through a rough patch and don't get the results they want so they get frustrated. a gym owner once told me that more people cancel their gym memberships then sign up once a gym gets established.

Cool to see you apply your training mindset to fishing. Treating everything in life the same way you approach training is always a recipe for success.

Great message and thank you for sharing @stevesmi brother.

It's great to see how both discipline in the the gym and our protocols translates to life, and vice versa too. I know for certain it has done just that for me since I joined EVO.

Words of wisdom as usual from you Steve. Good job on these catches. Those fish have some good fats in them. Very good omega-3s.

it just shows that you gotta keep at it in life and that you need to also accept that some days will be a failure. you don't have to be happy to fail, but you also need to accept it. the same goes to your bodybuilding journey. not every weight training session will be good. every day is a learning experience, even on days i have a shitty workout I try and figure out what went wrong and why.

Such an inspirational message, very wise words brother!!

That's a great catch, Not only did you hook up a mean feed, but lots of nutrients and plenty of free protein!

in life even if you fail at something, you need to get back on the horse and keep going. atleast the cliche goes something like this. the fishing has been awful the past few weeks. over new years week i got completely skunked twice, meaning i caught nothing at all. not even a bite. others weren't catching much either so the fishing was just slow. but i didn't give up at all and kept at it. the monday after New years i went again and caught a few smaller fish for cat food. I didn't give up at all and kept at it and over the past week the reports have sucked, but i figured let me go try it anyway cause you need to put in the hours.

Bros, my wife would love you. She loves to eat fish. She is Japanese so they like to eat fish. Her family eats fish every holiday.

@stevesmi very good way to put it brother. Very well written

It's nature. Does what it wants vs what we want. Nothing... nothing... GIANT fish lol
Hahaha... you remind me of a guy on my old team, he was older than me too, I can always 'hear' you saying what you write :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::p:p

Fishing is like weight training. Those bad days, you can either put your head down and be mad at yourself or you can still aim to learn something new no matter what. I've had plenty of bad days fishing and I've had plenty of bad days in the gym but on those bad days I always try and learn something new. Because when you do have a good day, it will pay off in spades. That's what happened to me yesterday. I ended up having my biggest day in recent memory. I had another fisherman come up to me and tell me "you're putting on a clinic"

10 keeper pompano. this is about $400 worth of fish right here. now i have protein for the week :)

Lately I fillet then air fry the strips and make them into fish tacos

Thats a great point and easy to forget; The bad days are still building us up, even if its just learning and building some resilience.

Nice job out there!
Yep always trying to get better
It pays off

Made the wife super jealous awesome day. Enjoy

as it starts to cool down i like to break out the soups. it especially is amazing after a long fast to break the fast with some homemade soup especially the broth.

this is a simple recipe that i put together that anyone can do with a slow cooker

you can mix and match what you want to add but this is my setup for this weekend:

celery
sweet potatoes
regular potatoes
carrots
swissh chard (stems go in early, leaves go in later)
spinach
PLAIN low fodmap organic chicken broth 365 brand free or onions/garlic
oregano
black pepper
organic chicken marinaded in raw honey

slow cooker
@MarkNV and I will have a cook off on whose soup
Is better ha
Hell yes!!!

Killn it. Nice catch

What's the heavy metal content like in that species of fish? Are they safe to eat regularly?

Extremely low, the heavy metal mercury stuff are found in the bigger fish that are on the higher end of the food chain
You won’t be able to eat them regularly anyway because they only are caught basically three or four months out of the year

Thats great. Delicious and healthy to eat regularly.

I thought I remember there was another factor with heavy metals and ocean fish. Is it the depth they live in?

I know the big fish eating the little fish is a problem but I remember there are some small species that are high in heavy metals too. I think mackerel is one.

Polluted water.
That’s another thing about pompano. They hate dirty water. They will only feed in clean water 🧽

Ahh that makes sense. I think I remember hearing that before.

If the world ever collapses you're still gonna be eating like a king with your fishing skills and location. I'm gonna be foraging for berries lol

You could just go au natural and chum the waters where you're fishing lol

@stevesmi ive only just started reading the first page mate. And this is a massive eye opener for me tbh. Really interesting and really want to work out a way to incorporate some of your fasting tips into my weight loss journey. I’ll read some more tomorrow morning. Thanks mate

We had @Noah Wixx on the podcast today and he had just experienced his first 48 hour fast and one of the things he mentioned was how clearly he was thinking while fasting. One of the main reasons for this is obviously because your body switches from glycogen to ketones for energy during a fast but there are also several other reasons that we didn't get a chance to touch on during the podcast that I wanted to put in writing. I have talked about some of these already earlier in this log but i wanted to post up some specific information about how fasting helps with brain fog and mental clarity.

1. Ketosis: This one is pretty simple but once your glucose is depleted while fasting your liver starts spitting out ketones. You will know when this happens by buying those ketone strips from the drug store and pissing on them. The ketones will provide a consistent stream of fuel for your brain which feels very different then the sugar/carb highs you might be used to

2. Body Stress reduction: The 2nd big reason is your digestive system gets a break. Imagine if you ran your lawnmower nonstop for days and days with no break. The motor would get super hot and over time it will not run well. Your digestion is the same way. Those that eat every 2-3 hours and never give their digestion a break will use up energy that could be used on the brain and other things too. Most people use 50% or more of their daily energy just on digestion, fasting frees that energy up.

3. lower inflammation: when you eat you become more inflamed. When you fast the opposite happens. We know with dementia patients inflammation of the brain is a huge problem and they will get confused, some days are worse then others. When you fast you reduce the inflammation of the brain making your brain think more clearly.

4. Cell repair/autophagy: our bodies have cells all over the place, whether it's your muscles, your organs, or anything else. When you fast your cells will replace themselves with better and newer cells so your brain cells will actually get fresh troops just like anything else. That will help you think clearly and think like you were younger again.

5. BDNF: when you fast, you increase the level of BDNF, which is a protein that supports neuron growth and other benefits. It also has been proved in studies to help with learning and memory function. If you are studying for a test, for example, you'll notice that you're able to study a lot easier when you have a clear stomach and you're fasting versus eating fast food or pizza and feeling like crap and then trying to crash for an exam. Called students, could benefit from understanding this big time. I know I experienced it myself in college but at the time had no clue why I was able to think more clearly when I was not scarfing down a bad meal. The food companies though want you to think that you need to eat to function physically and mentally and it's just the opposite.

@stevesmi would you say starting a 48 hour fast in the AM after breakfast is good? Or does effectiveness differ when you start at different times of the day?

it depends on your situation. you just fasted all night so starting the fast after dinner the night before makes sense. so if you have dinner and start fasting after that at 6pm on monday. you would complete 48 hours on wednesday night

Fasting is the real deal :D @stevesmi its much better in the long run than GLP1s but much harder to manage imo

if you do run GLP'1s and want to fast then i would drop the dosage down to .5mg-1mg every week max.

The food companies though want you to think that you need to eat to function physically and mentally and it's just the opposite.

fasting is definitely a weapon; more people should implement it. This is a great write-up. I didn't know about the BDNF thing.

fasting is definitely something that I need to do more of. The benefits are definitely amazing. Thanks for posting all these cool things that they do.

was not even aware Noah went on another podcast. He's been on the podcast a lot lately. That's good that you guys went over fasting. I didn't recall him ever being someone who was into fasting before.

@stevesmi Fasting is the way to go!

with fishing season coming to an end, expect more updates out of me. It’s been a busy couple months. I’ve pretty much tried to go fishing. Every chance I got and I did quite quite well. Well cooking the fish has been fun using different recipes. This is a new recipe that I just started doing? It’s a mix of rice pasta asparagus, high-quality plain tomato sauce and of course, the fish that I’ve caught not sure what the name is of this dish, but I’m sure there’s some Italian name for it.

It’s also very easy to make, and I make enough to last me several days

In other news, I am going to be trying a couple new peptides

Dsip and thymosin alpha. I want to see how good these peptides are. A lot of people have said that they have helped them quite a bit and others have said that they haven’t so I’m going to give my honest assessment of what they do for me.

I didn't even realise there was such a thing as fishing season, but there you go.
Fish pasta looks really nice and they are not a common dish these days. Going to hunt that down.
What are DSIP and Thymosin Alpha supposed to do? 🩵

Dsip helps you sleep harder so you wake up refreshed. Thymosin alpha boosts immune system

We go over them in the interviews with @Iron_rose1 and the 2nd @Robarock

DSIP interesting I saw @OwEv751 do a self study on it didnt look good tbh @stevesmi but i have clients who swear by it, so its hard to say!

nice pasta dish!

@HarleyGuy @waggat @Grumpy @LH5515 @Yuri @catdadironman @bss

I personally didn't get much from disp think it made my sleep worse
I noticed very little either. I’ll bet it works synergistically with other things in nature. They say it’s in breast milk. Well all milk is breast milk, but who knows what pasteurization does to it. And there’s probably a lot of other things in there

thats why i am trying it out. to see for myself
Looking forward to hearing about DSIP bro! I have some here on standby I'd like to give to HarleyGirl who complains of issues sleeping sometimes.

I'm 1 week into DSIP and thymosin alpha 1

using 300mcg DSIP 30-60 minutes before bed- I see SOME improvements. I seem to sleep in on this stuff.. 2 days this week i actually slept past 7:30 which is very late for me lol. and my sleep is harder. I don't wake up to noises i would usually wake up to.

using TA1 1mg 2x a week so 2mgs so far split-- my breathing and allergies are better. I am usually a person who builds up phlegm at night and has to clear my throat or blow my nose. but it has been less this week.

in both situations it could be coincidence at play but after 1 week i would say both are doing what i expected

obviously to use both optimally you want to clean up your act. i mean if you have allergies don't be washing your sheets with scented products or dust/vacuum your room once a month and think this will fix it. and with dsip clean up your sleeping habits ahead of time. it isn't a miracle peptide, but i feel it helps take your sleep a step further.

i would say so far my sleep went from 7 out of 10 to 8/10
and my allergies went from 6/10 to 7/10

Informative and balanced update brother. Really insightful perspective on the allergies. Have the same thing myself. Need to be mindful of this. 🩵

could be a game changer. i am allergic to dust and its one thing in my climate we gotta deal with
i hope more people play around with it to see what they come up with too

interesting I want to see how much better you do with DSIP long term this is going to be very informative :D @stevesmi
could you please start a community research thread with your DSIP feedback? :D if possible
